Frequently Asked Questions
-
Will I have to go to court?
Certain cases can be settled out of court. If both parties or parents involved can agree on the conditions of the settlement with their solicitors then court will not be necessary. However, certain cases like barring orders, child custody or domestic violence situations will more than likely require a court settlement.
-
How long do divorce proceedings take?
The time of divorce proceedings will depend on each couple and how quickly they can agree on the terms of their divorce. In 2019, a referendum reduced the time of separation required for a divorce from five years to two years. This means you and your spouse must be living separately for at least two years before you can apply for a divorce.
